Demolition marks start of landmark Holbeche Place redevelopment
The transformation of Solihull town centre is now under way.
Demolition has commenced in Solihull to make way for the first phase of Holbeche Place and 346 new build-to-rent homes.
The demolition of Mell Square Car Park and the former petrol station marks the first visible step towards delivering the Holbeche Place masterplan. Once complete, the new neighbourhood will provide up to 1,600 homes alongside shops, cafés, restaurants and public spaces.
Part of a bold economic strategy for Solihull, Holbeche Place is designed to ensure the town centre remains successful over the long-term, by delivering a new mixed-use neighbourhood which is active and vibrant throughout the day and evening.
Holbeche Place will attract more people into the town to live and spend time, increasing footfall and strengthening what the town centre offers – supporting the growth of existing and new businesses.
Lisa Turley, Development Director at Muse, said:
This is the moment the transformation of Holbeche Place becomes real. After three years of working side by side with Solihull Council, seeing demolition begin is a significant first step.”
“Holbeche Place is about more than new homes. It will bring new opportunities into Solihull, supporting a town centre that is active and vibrant throughout the day and into the evening. The support of the West Midlands Combined Authority has also been crucial and underlines the regional significance of Holbeche Place.”
Councillor Karen Grinsell, Leader of Solihull Council, said:
The start of demolition is a landmark moment for Holbeche Place and for Solihull. Residents will now see the first physical signs of a redevelopment that will support our economic strategy and the town centre’s long-term success.” Throughout the demolition works, shops and businesses remain open and we will continue to work with retailers and partners to minimise disruption and ensure visitors continue to experience the very best Solihull has to offer.”
