How do we elevate standards from planning through to project completion and beyond, to deliver operational excellence?
This October alongside our construction partners Carey’s we will be joined by some of Birmingham’s top built environment industry leaders at our latest roundtable to ask them one key question: ‘We all play a part in the product we leave behind and operational excellence is about getting better every day. How do we elevate standards from the first point of contact with architects and planners through to project completion and beyond, to truly deliver operational excellence?’
As follow-up to our earlier Building Brum: Construction Though Collaboration roundtable event which explored “How do we efficiently build a more inclusive, Birmingham, making it renowned as the great place to work in the industry?”. This October our guests will focus on Operational Excellence and how this is lived and implemented across Birmingham’s construction projects by contractors, developers, architects, influencers and clients.

Operational excellence:
- Health and safety – How do we continue to improve health and safety, ensuring the industry has a reputation we can be incredibly proud of? We are not going to sit back and get complacent and want Birmingham’s construction projects to have the best health and safety record in the UK.
- Cost and commercial – How do we best reduce our operational costs and be more effective in change control and reducing wastage on delivering projects in the region?
- Planning – How do we better monitor, track and achieve improvements in projects completing on time, in accordance with the latest, agreed programme?
- Community – How do we work more closely with our supply chain communities to ensure responsible and ethical sourcing and with our local communities to deliver added social value?
- Engagement and wellbeing – How do we focus on providing the best conditions we can for
- everyone’s health and wellbeing on Birmingham’s projects, so people feel valued and can bring their authentic selves to work?
- Digital transformation – How can digital systems enhance what we can do, not diminish it? We don’t want anyone to spend their time on repetitive, duplicated tasks that only need to be done once.
- Daily Management - Daily Management, done correctly, results in a project environment in which problems are identified early and solved collaboratively between the project team and external partners such as Design Consultants and Subcontractors. Are we having timely course correction conversations and taking appropriate action? – Are our teams and partners having short, sharp daily reviews?
- Ultimately, how can Operational Excellence initiatives create value; both for the customer, and the business itself?
Construction Through Collaboration:
Three Part Series Agenda Overview
Great Place to Work:
- Inclusion & diversity: How do we ensure everyone is represented, included and accepted in our industry so that inclusion and diversity become part of what the industry is known for across all construction projects in Birmingham?
Operational Excellence:
- Health and safety – How do we continue to improve health and safety, ensuring the industry has a reputation we can be incredibly proud of? We are not going to sit back and get complacent and want Birmingham to have the best health and safety record in the UK.
Partner of Choice:
- Supply chain partners – As the UK’s second city, how do we better use and harness the local supply chain’s specialist knowledge, insight and skills? Essential to us innovating, improve, and becoming better every day.
