Bruntwood SciTech Announced as Building Brum’s First Innovation Partner

Building Brum is delighted to announce that Bruntwood SciTech has joined the series as its first ever Innovation Partner – and the first developer to formally partner with the platform.

The collaboration marks a significant milestone for Building Brum, reflecting both the growth of the series and the continued evolution of Birmingham as one of the UK’s most ambitious and forward-looking cities.

As Birmingham’s skyline continues to rise, so too does its reputation as a centre for innovation, knowledge and commercial growth. Major regeneration schemes, a strengthening professional services sector, and increasing demand for high-quality workspace are reshaping the city core. At the heart of this transformation is the emergence of Birmingham’s Knowledge Quarter – a growing ecosystem of science, technology, education and enterprise clustered around key institutions and innovation-led development.

Bruntwood SciTech has played a pivotal role in shaping this agenda, investing in specialist workspaces and innovation campuses that support the region’s fast-growing life science, technology and innovation-led businesses. Their commitment to creating environments where cutting-edge companies can start, scale and succeed aligns closely with Building Brum’s mission to spotlight the people, projects and policies shaping the built environment across the Midlands.

As Innovation Partner, Bruntwood SciTech will support the Building Brum podcast and live event programme, contributing to conversations around development, investment, skills, sustainability and the long-term future of Birmingham’s commercial landscape.

Supporting a City on the Rise

Birmingham is experiencing a period of significant transformation. From the continued delivery of landmark tall buildings to the strengthening of its innovation economy, the city is positioning itself as a national leader outside London for business growth and inward investment.

Investment in specialist workspace for tech, life sciences and innovation-led businesses is happening at scale across the city centre, from Eastside to the Colmore Business District. New lab facilities like Birmingham Health Innovation Campus at the University of Birmingham, refurbished innovation hubs and improved infrastructure are creating the conditions for businesses to start, scale and succeed locally. The emergence of the Birmingham Knowledge Quarter, alongside this coordinated approach to development and placemaking, similarly reflects sustained investment in the city's commercial and innovation infrastructure. .

This new partnership reflects confidence in that vision.

Moe Ali, Associate Director at Bruntwood SciTech, said:

“Birmingham's innovation economy needs infrastructure, not just ambition. In the past 18 months we've completed No.1 Birmingham Health Innovation Campus and delivered major refurbishments at both McLaren and Cornerblock. These are tangible infrastructure investments that will support real businesses across life science, tech and innovation-focused sectors.

“Building Brum plays an important role in connecting the people actually delivering this transformation, from developers and local authorities to the businesses scaling in these environments. Partnering with the platform allows us to contribute to important conversations around what's working, what the barriers are and how we're solving for the infrastructure gaps that innovation-led businesses tell us they need addressed. This partnership reflects our long-term commitment to Birmingham, not just as investors, but as active participants in shaping how the city's innovation economy functions and grows."”

Conor Nolan, Programme Director of Building Brum, said:

“Bruntwood SciTech joining Building Brum as our first Innovation Partner is a huge milestone for the series. As the first developer to formally partner with us, it signals both the maturity of the platform and the importance of the conversations we are hosting. Birmingham’s skyline is changing, but so too is its economic identity. The rise of the Birmingham Knowledge Quarter and the growth of innovation-led development will shape the next decade of our city. We’re proud to be working alongside Bruntwood SciTech to champion that story and to continue connecting the people driving Birmingham forward.”

Building Brum will continue its 2026 programme with a mix of podcasts, live panel events and industry collaborations, providing a platform for open discussion around the future of the Midlands’ built environment.
